I know Family Health Care of Siouxland’s blogs are typically full of important links and information to help you live your best, healthiest life. I want this blog to be just as informative, but in a different way. While I hope you never find yourself in my position, when sickness drives you to further testing, I do hope that if you ever do, you’ll find yourself at Family Health Care of Siouxland and the Family Health Care of Siouxland Imaging Center.
When you aren’t feeling well and nothing you do helps you turn the corner, what you need may not be more time or more medicine. Sometimes what you need are answers.
But, to be fair and honest, that wasn’t my initial reaction when it happened to me.
When my physician suggested extensive tests that included an MRI, I was scared for my health and my pocketbook. At the time while I was sick, I kept thinking, “I have so much to do, I can’t afford to get sick,” and suddenly I was confronted with “This will be so expensive, I can’t afford to get better.” Again, part of me hopes this doesn’t ring a bell with you, but if it does, take heart; the answers you need to feel better don’t have to be complicated, expensive or time consuming. In fact, for me—and I’m sure the same will hold true for you–the staff at Family Health Care Imaging Center made sure none of those were the case.
The real beauty of the Family Health Care Imaging Center is that it’s in a clinical setting, saving me from the higher overhead and additional charges often found in other imaging centers. (Did you know you could shop around for these things? The price difference is astounding!). Their ever-helpful, experienced staff explained to me the insurance process, being transparent about I would be responsible for, and how they would help me with the paperwork. This eased my stress immensely, and helped me relax (well, as much as one can relax in an MRI machine) during the test.
The warm, comfortable setting was calming in its own way, and the approachable, supportive nature of the staff made me realize that I had asked myself the wrong questions earlier. Instead of grappling with “How much is this all going to cost me?” what I should have been thinking was “What could be wrong with me?”
Looking back, I am so thankful my nurse told me that the Family Health Care Imaging Center could handle all of my diagnostic tests. Not only did they save me money and ease the stress, they also saved me time by offering the lab services I needed prior to my MRI. All those weeks of feeling sick, and I was in and out of testing in under an hour.
If you only remember one thing in this letter, remember this: It’s really okay to put a price on your health. Family Health Care Imaging Center made sure the price was worth it. Now I “get” to worry about things that matter, like getting healthy and making the most of every moment. And that’s a position I always hope you find yourself in.
