As the season shifts, it’s time to stop hibernating and start making big plans for the warmer months ahead! Perhaps you’re looking forward to gardening, enjoying sunny walks, or cheering on kids in sports. Whatever you love to do, you want to feel your best! Here are our 5 tips for a healthy, happy spring.
- Be Active – Even if you’ve had a less-than-sporty winter, there’s never a better time than now to dust off your walking shoes and get some steps in! Try to find a physical activity that you truly enjoy, whether it’s taking long walks with a friend, jogging in the park, playing pickleball, or trying yoga – set a reasonable goal, and stick with it! The movement will do wonders for your mind and body.
- Prepare for Allergies – Spring is infamous for its allergies, but don’t let that keep you from enjoying everything the season has to offer! Rather than hiding or avoiding fun outdoor activities, get ahead of them. Get all your allergy medicine prepared before they hit, clean your window screens and outdoor furniture, and vacuum regularly to keep the allergies at bay.
- Eat Fresh – Delicious and nutritious, seasonal produce is a great way to enjoy the spring while giving your body what it needs to feel amazing. Popular spring crops include asparagus, beets, carrots, parsnips, radishes, and salad greens. Plan to make a delightful seasonal salad today, and enjoy the health benefits!
- Get A Good Night’s Sleep – With increased daylight hours comes increased activity, and that’s a great thing! A busy, full day often leads to a great night of sleep. Aim for 8 solid hours of sleep per night to keep yourself energized for all the spring activities ahead. To help your body wind down, try to avoid sugary or caffeinated beverages after 3pm and avoid screens right before it’s time to fall asleep.
- Enjoy The Sunshine – Cover yourself in sunscreen, and get outside to enjoy the sun! There are countless health benefits of sunlight; improved sleep, reduced stress, strengthened immune system, minimized inflammatory skin conditions, etc. Aim for at least 20 minutes of sun exposure per day – which is easy when the weather is beautiful and breezy in the springtime. So get outside, and soak up the sun!
