DexaScan Bone Density Study

Dexa bone density studies of the spine and hip are considered the "gold standard" for diagnosing osteoporosis and monitoring bone density changes over time. A bone density study measures the calcium content or density of the bones.

• Low bone density is the greatest risk factor for spine and hip fractures. The association between low bone density and osteoporotic fracture is similar to the association between cholesterol and heart disease or blood pressure and stroke. Bone density testing can:

• Detect low bone density before a fracture occurs

• Monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
